Opposition flexes muscles on 4 November

After successfully reclaiming al-Quds day which was used for many years by a certain radical grouping within the state as a platform to take advantage of the Palestinian cause for their own ends, the Iranian opposition is eagerly anticipates the 4th of November as another day for reminding the coup government that the issue of the elections is far from over.

Four months after the 12 June coup, Iranians have still not forgotten about the day their votes were so audaciously stolen right in front of their eyes. Four months on, the Green Movement is still determined to show its opposition to the current government which lacks any form of legitimacy.

Since the early days of the revolution, the 4th of November has been marked by demonstrations organised by the government in Iran in remembrance of the takeover of the US embassy in Tehran by a group of Iranian students. This year however, it is the Green Movement that will set the tone for the demonstration, as it did on al-Quds day; a movement which is not represented in government but is capable of shaping the country’s destiny.

Every one of these government sponsored occasions is a chance for us to revive the spirit of resistance against a government that can lie so openly and shamelessly to its people, without fearing anything or anyone, while its goons kill, imprison and torture those who dare stand-up do its draconian ways. Every occasion is a chance for Iranians to march onto the streets in an attempt to regain what is rightfully theirs and November 4th is one such occasion.

Ahmadinejad’s government has proven time after time that it will stop at nothing when it comes to staying in power, not even giving in to the demands of external powers so as to make up for its lack of domestic legitimacy. It continues to resort to further materialisation and adopting measures only used by totalitarian regimes hoping to consolidate their grips on power.

November 4th is a chance for the Green Movement to call on authorities to come to their senses and to free those who helped make the Islamic Revolution a reality, but are now spending their days in the notorious prisons of Iran.

Our movement however is not steered by any single leader, group or core. Its success is closely entwined with the will and determination of the people who proudly wear their green symbols and march onto to the streets hoping for change in their homeland. Our movement’s true power lies in the bonds and social networks we so carefully formed prior to the June 12 coup. November 4th is another opportunity for us to enhance and expand those ties and to strengthen our Green Movement more than even before, as Mir Hossein Mousavi has so eloquently stated.

The events of the past few months have demonstrated that we as individuals are the real source of the Green Wave’s power, nothing else.

In the same light, Mowjcamp would like to ask all fellow green campaigners to share any idea, poem, article, weblog, image, poster, audio, video, etc that would contribute to the Green Movement’s show of force on November 4th.

Please do not hesitate to contact us through email with your brilliant ideas which have always been a driving force for the Green Movement since its conception and remember that the collective success of our movement is influenced first and foremost by how our individual conviction towards our noble cause.
