Upon Karroubi’s arrival at the fair, hundreds of visitors gathered outside a booth dedicated to the Fars News Agency, one of the government’s propaganda centres and chanted slogans in condemnation of Ahmadinejad and its ruthless militia.
Even though Karroubi’s supporters tried to prevent the assailants from approaching him, after a few minutes the attackers were able to throw Karroubi’s turban off and attempted to beat him up. Following this, Karroubi’s bodyguards directed him outside the compound in order to prevent further escalation.
