4th November a green day to remember

The green opposition movement of Iran is preparing itself for a massive show of force on Wednesday 4th of November which coincides with the capture of the American Embassy exactly 30 years ago.

Every year this day was commemorated across Iran with the full backing of the government and was the platform for radical voices in Iran who would shamelessly highjack the ceremonies.

However this time, the June 12 elections and its aftermath mean that instead of the traditional radical tone to the protests, students across from all over Iran are gearing up to mark the day with protests against the coup government of Ahmadinejad which lacks any form of legitimacy after it committed a monumental fraud during the elections in June.

This year, a new colour will be added to the protests; a colour that has a new found meaning among Iranians ever since the elections, green. The government however has developed its own strategy for hindering the Green Wave. In a desperate attempt the pro-government forces have introduced a new term, “the green Alavi movement” which is meant to confuse and pollute the real green movement, and take advantage of it. However, it is most unlikely that such hopeless acts will yield any results as the past 5 months have demonstrated.

Also tonight at 9pm local time, Iranians will be preparing for tomorrow’s march by getting on rooftops and chanting Allah-o-Akbar, something they have gotten used to doing within these past few months.

As opposed to previous years when the protests were dominated by anti-American slogans, this year the Iranian people will show their opposition to any kind of foreign meddling in their affairs, whether it is from the United States or Russia or China.

Until now, it has become clear that Mahdi Karroubi will be present at the famous Haft-e-Tir square at 10:30am. Other leaders of the green movement will most likely announce their presence very soon. Haft-e-Tir square is close to the former American Embassy which is now a museum.

Last but not least is the role of citizen journalism which will be very crucial in conveying the message of the Iranian people on Wednesday. A tactic which has been used by the Iranian people to revolutionise the media and broadcast their green message to the world. Thus mojcamp would like to ask everyone to send us their videos and images from tomorrow’s marches.

The Iranian people have come a long way in their struggle for their most basic of rights. The 4th of November promises to be a new chapter in that struggle. A chapter that starts tonight, from our rooftops when we shall chant Allah-o-Akbar once more.
