Fifth death sentence handed down

Reza Khademi who had been arrested in his father’s house on the 13th of June has been sentenced to death by a Revolutionary Court.

According to the committee of Human Rights reporters, Khademi who was deprived of choosing his legal representation in court, has been accused of being “a member of the MKO” (the People’s Mujahidin Organisation which is considered a terrorist organisation by both Iran and the US) and “participating in and leading the protests.” Despite the charges, Khademi was arrested a day after the elections which means that he could not have had a major role in orchestrating the protests after the elections. It is said that the evidence against him is a photo of him on the street.

His family have not yet been officially informed about the sentence. Khademi’s family live in a poor neighbourhood in Southern Tehran. Khademi’s ailing father suffers from heart problems and has already lost a kidney. Khademi also has six sisters.

Four others by the names of Mohammad Reza Ali Zamani, Arash Rahmanipour, Naser Abdolhasani and Hamed Rohaninejad have also been sentenced to death for their alleged role in the election aftermath.
