Alireza Mousavi, Ahmad Mirtaheri, Alireza Zargar, Hamid Ghahvehchian, Amir Kazempour, and Yaser Masoumi were the student activists arrested. Apart from Hamid Ghahveghian who is a master’s student of Law at Shahid Beheshti University, the rest of the students study at University of Allameh Tabataba’i.
It is not yet clear which security body was responsible for the arrest of these students.
The University of Allameh Tabataba’i has been the victim of the militant attitude of Ahmadinejad’s government throughout its conception in 2005.
The recent wave of student arrests are seen as an attempt to intimidate the opposition in the days leading to 7 December or Student Day on which nationwide demonstrations will be held against the illegitimate government of Ahmadinejad.
